Lara & Terry's Wedding

Nick and I went to Lara and Terry's wedding on Saturday and it was beautiful. The ceremony was nice and outside but there was some rain (or a down pour) so we had dinner and dancing inside. Lara's dress was beautiful I wish I had more pictures but the memory card corrupted on us.

My favorite pics are the 'prom' pictures the four of us took!

Angels and Demons

Last night we went out to dinner at PF Chang's and went to see Angels and Demons with Nick's family. I don't think I have ever eaten so much in my life. At Chang's they have a dinner for two so I had a cup of egg drop soup, three chicken lettuce wraps, honey shrimp (I ate over half of it) with brown rice, and one of their little desserts of strawberry short cake.

Then when we went to the movie I ate an entire small bag of popcorn (which wasn't very small), half a thing of nachos and started on the sour patch kids. Then the family decided we should go to Cold Stone where I had a small (again not very small) milk and cookies shake. I don't remember the last time I ate so much and I am just thankful I didn't wake up in the middle of the night with a massive stomach ache!
The movie was good and not too long. I read The DaVinci Code and never saw the movie but I didn't read Angels and Demons which was probably good becasue the movie didn't disappoint me.

Surgery Update

My mom is out of surgery and it went well. I am heading to the hospital to see her shortly.

Mom's surgery

My mom just went into surgery for a hysterectomy at 11:00 am today. The doctor's found pre-cancer cells so this will get rid of all of them. I know it's silly but I am nervous and could never tell her. She has to be in the hospital for a few days (we're not sure how many yet). I really just want the surgery part to be over, and it should be around 2:00.

I am bringing Jose with me this afternoon to see her. I could use every one's good thoughts and prayers today.

Perfect end to a productive weekend

Taking two days off was very needed and I feel like I actually got some things accomplished. My last day of vacation was spent cleaning my basement so I have a clean place to scrapbook and make cards, getting all the cushions out on my patio furniture and starting on the third Twighlight book.

I am supposed to be reading The Good Earth for book club but I needed something refreshing and mindless. I also started going through my old Cooking Light and Sunset magazines for all the recipes.

As you can see by the pics, Jose was glad to have cushions and I completed scrapbooking freshman year of college, I just need to add the journaling (assuming I can remember that long ago :-). I still have the other three years but hope to have my college scrapbooks done by the end of the year. Then I plan to go back and do high school. I still need to do my wedding album but I have so many pictures it frightens me so I thought I would go back in time a little.

Happy Mother's Day . . .

To all of you with kids or animals. I am having a wonderful mother's day weekend. I took Friday and Monday off so I could get all my planting done. Brunch was at my house this year, I made ham and brie crapes, strawberry crapes, monkey bread, eggs and bacon. It was very low key and very tasty.

My puppies got me some new Capri's for golfing, a rain/wind jacket and matching belt so I will be very stylish next time I play golf. I hope you all have had a wonderful day too!

Book Club

So tonight I am hosting book club for the first time in a long time. We are discussing two books, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (I think that's the title) and Twilight. I definitely recommend both books they are very different but both very good. (Thank you Sara for turning me onto Twilight, I can't get enough!)

I also made two new yummy cookies for tonight, a dried strawberry, white chocolate chip and oatmeal cookie and a chocolate, dried cherries, Rice Krispie and almond drop cookie. I am excited to see what everyone thinks.

when is enough?

So I went out for drinks tonight for work. It was at my local bar, Lansdowne. I stayed for one more. I got into a political argument. I have been in many political debates but I have never been thrown down three to one. I should have been able to handle it but I couldn't. So I ask you guys when is enough? I cried and I hate that that was my weakest moment but honestly I have never been in the position I was in tonight.

I am all for freedom of speech, I am a God Damn journalism major but when did people start sucking so much. I don't mean to complain, yet I do. In all my politiacal conversations in life I have never been treated as I was tonight. I am venting but think this is a sad comentary on our society.

Hollywood Chihauhau

Jose will be getting a spa day this weekend as he is stinky again. He is so cute when he is wet!

He is also getting an early birthday present, Hollywood Chihauhau just came out on DVD. We have all the movies with Huskies in them but no Chihauhau, I am excited to see it!

Facebook

So I found Ford on Facebook tonight and asked him to be my friend. I haven't seen him since our graduation day in college but would like to know how he is doing. By Ford, I mean Ryan. I am not sure yet if it was a good idea.

Medical issues

So I found out on Wednesday that my MRI came back ok and what is going on with me is not in my brain or my heart. That is the good news. It is definitely my ear but we are not sure what yet. I didn't test positive for any of the common ear issues so now there has to be more testing for irregular ear issues. I can choose to go on a water pill for 30 days and if it is that I have too much fluid in my left ear that will help; or I can have another test.

Your inner ear is covered by bone but there is a chance that a part of my inner ear is not covered by bone and that can cause dizziness, pain and some of the other things I've been experiencing with that ear. If that test comes back positive I would have to have a CAT scan for more detail and then surgery may or may not be necessary.

I am planning to do the water pill first for 30 days and see if that doesn't help. At least I know it is not a major organ. Thank you all for your concern and support it means the world to me.

Last weekend

Last weekend my brother-in-law and his boyfriend were in town from Florida. They brought their new puppy Tequila Rose. Jose hated her at first but by Sunday they were playing like old friends and now he looks for her every morning. They are talking about moving to Colorado and I hope it's true. I really miss Joe.

A little scared

So I wasn't going to blog about this but I am a little nervous right now. I have passed out twice in the last two months and am undergoing several tests. My ear has been bothering me and after three tests today there are some abnormalities in my left ear (the one that has been bothering me). I am having an MRI on Friday to determine if it is the ear or the brain. I am also wearing a heart monitor for the month of February (I get it off on my birthday).

In my heart of hearts I think I am ok but I am a little scared that I am only going to be 31 and have all these tests (some of which are abnormal). You guys are my best friends and I just wanted someone to know what is going on. I will keep you posted.

Happy Birthday Sara

Hey girl, I didn't want you to think I forgot your birthday. It was probably just another day to you having the baby and all. I thought these pictures from my 21st birthday and Lara's 21st birthday might bring back some happy memories. (Man we were drunk!!)

First's. . .

This has been a week of first's for me:

First road trip by myself
First time staying in Canon City
First time buying clothes at WalMart
First time staying in Salida
First time drinking mini wine bottles
First time eating Veal
First time going to Moffat
First time a pop can exploded in my car
First time driving 285 South by myself

It's been a big week. I don't think I would trade it!

Livin Large . . .

So I got stuck in Canon City today but because I stayed in a Holiday Inn I can now mountain climb a 14er while performing brain surgery. I have successfully made it to Salida and since my Comfort Inn does not have a fitness center, I stopped at the liquor store for 4 mini bottles of wine and Pizza Hut for dinner. I am livin' large!

I also locked my keys in my Jeep while unloading my luggage and had to climb in through the back window (again, this is like the 3rd or 4th time!) in my suit to retrieve them. Thank God for zipper windows but my hands almost froze while trying to zip it back up in 3 degree weather.

And to think, I won't be home until Thursday night. Traveling for work within Colorado is so much different and more difficult than traveling to various states. I miss airports and airplanes! I did get some good pics I will share when I get home.

Snowy Day

So I am trying to get better about blogging. Right now I am sitting in a Holiday Inn Express in Canon City (yes where all the prisons are). I had enrollment meetings down here today and plan to go back to Denver tomorrow but the snow has decided to come in steady and strong. I am going to be very sad if I am stuck here tomorrow.

I would have posted pics but I don't have my cord to upload from my camera. I am incredibly busy at work (which is a good thing) and have several trips around Colorado planned this week and of course the weather sucks. Last week it was in the 60s and 70s! I miss my puppies and hope I can get out of here in the morning.

Dad's Birthday

Friday was my dad's birthday and we are celebrating tonight. We are doing our traditional fondue which I can't wait. Only issue is my doctor just put me on Prilosec OTC for my stomach issues and I think I am having more stomach issues now than I did before the drug. I really hope my tummy can handle rich fondue tonight because I love it so!

For my dad's birthday present I made him a scrapbook to house all of the concert tickets he and my mom collect. They love going to concerts and see several a year and his new hobbie is collecting all the tickets, now he can showcase them. I just included a few pages of the scrapbook. I will have to continue building on it every year for him.

Good reads . . .

I have just finished reading a book I highly recommend and it is a quick read. Made in the U.S.A. is by Billie Letts and about a brother and sister who end up homeless in Las Vegas but taken in by someone highly unlikely. Although it was graphic in the beginning it has wonderful ending.

I am currently reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. This exchange of letters in fiction and takes place just after World War II. It is an intersting perspective of the War from the people of Guernsey Island.

So far my book club list through May has some good books:
The Red Leather Diary: Reclaiming a Life Through the Pages of a Lost Journal - Lily Koppel
There's a (Slight) Chance I Might be Going to Hell - Laurie Notaro
Twighlight - Stephenie Meyer
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - Mary Ann Schaffer and Annie Barrows
Merle's Door - Ted Kerasote

Happy New Year

So this is the second time I am posting this, my last sentence of the post was modern technology still baffles me and then my blog just refused to post. Case and point!

I am really looking forward to 2009 as 2008 was not a great year. I have been busy with work and family for the holidays but will be bloging much more frequently. I am currently playing with my new toys, an iPod and the Instinct phone which is similar to the iPhone. It has taken me a week to get my iPod loaded but I think I am close. I just want to use it in the gym, I am tired of my little one where I hear the same songs over and over!
